new single : ‘State of Grace’
‘State of Grace’, the song co-written with Mozez, was released as a single in February 2007, and the CD release features a specially commissioned remix by The Beauty Room. Pete says “Their album, which I received in late spring and is scheduled for August release on Peacefrog, is the freshest new music I've heard this year, a stunning blend of craftsmanship and melodic grace. Melody and harmony in perfect sync, drawing on a rich heritage of influences to make timeless pop music. The remix is something really speciall and they were clearly inspired by Mozez’ awesome vocal performance.”

Mozez and Pete Lawrence share a chortle
Chilled By Nature appeared live at The Big Chill festival 2006, and some of that show appeared on the Channel 4 documentary of the festival, screened later in August. The last semi-live shows were back in 2002, using live horns and cello. This time, Nick Cohen, who plays bass on the album, was musical arranger for the show which also featured Andy Gangadeen on drums, Dave Nobie on guitar, Neil Cowley and Simon Richmond on keyboards, Kat Arney on harp and a three piece horn section, as well as vocal appearances from Mozez and Rosa Fernandez.
Chilled By Nature recorded a session for Radio 1's Blue Room which was broadcast in September 2006 featuring a stripped down line-up of Nick Cohen on bass, Ansuman Biswas on percussion, Jessica Lauren on piano and keyboards, Dave Noble on guitar and Mozez and Rosa on vocals. Tracks recorded were 'Where Did You Go?', 'Rolling' and 'State of Grace'

A new Pete Lawrence Compilation
'FAB GEAR'
This summer will see the release of a brand new Pete Lawrence compilation, this time concentrating on bubblegum pop with a psychedelic twist from the late 60s, and it is slated for release via Universal Music on July 31st, possibly as a 3CD box set.
Pete says "The late 60s was a golden age for pop, bubblegum, psychedelia and lounge. The summer of love was in full swing, England had recently won the world cup, man was landing on the moon, people were starting to travel overseas and there was definitely something in the air."
This soundtrack, hand-picked by Pete Lawrence reflects and revives that golden age, a superlative 3 CD set of tracks from the likes of The Mamas and Papas, 1910 Fruitgum Company, The Free Design, Traffic, Warm Sounds, The Box Tops and The Association.
Pete on Radio 2
Easter Monday saw Pete's second 2 hour programme for BBC Radio 2, following the success of the debut last August as part of a 6 hour chill out special.
Produced in Birmingham by Helen Chetwynd, Pete featured a session from Beautiful South vocalist Dave Hemingway as well as an interview with Jose Padilla and tracks by the likes of Paul Hartnoll, The Bird and The Bee and Judee Sill.
Pete comments "It's a great buzz doing radio, especially for Radio 2 which is the most listened to station in the UK and I was basically allowed to build the show pretty much as I wanted, though my producer Helen was great for her direction and guidance throughout. I'd love another crack at it soon. Hopefully the powers that be will increase the chill out show schedules from their current Bank Holiday status."
Pete's weekly show for DAB station Chill is currently available 8-10pm GMT every Monday.
Big Chill Compilation:
'Take me Home'
The first release in The Big Chill's new 'Take Me Home' series is now released, mixed by Pete and designed for multi purpose listening. Tracks include contributions from the new Pan Electric project from Fragile State drummer Matt Coldrick, a trio of tracks from Big Chill forumites The Beaufort Scale, Digitonal and Animat, up and coming Greek producers George Chatzis and Raining Pleasure, Mr Dan's remix of Sebastien Tellier's 'La Ritournelle', Alucidnation's re-make of Canadians Verbrilli Sound, who also appear as Telefuzz (with a guest vocal appearance from Laura B), as well as cuts from Andreas Vollenweider, Jon Hopkins, Lunz, Tom Greenwood and Blu Mar Ten. "I've been aware that there has been a scarcity of good downtempo, listening-based albums since the glut of so called 'chill out' collections that were fashionable in certain circles a few years ago. Given that people are always looking for new, fresh music to listen to at home, or whilst out and about on the ipod or in the car, I've put together a fresh mix, which slots nicely into our new concept for the launch of the 'Take Me Home' series. It's obviously all about quality downtempo music to suit a variety of moods, especially the more intimate post-clubbing, pre-loving moments. It's been proven that ambient music can be highly popular in erotic situations...." reflects Pete.
Take me Home is now available from good retail outlets and from www.bigchill.net
'Garden of Delights'
Released in summer 2006, 'Garden Of Delights' is a new folk based project, in conjunction with fellow DJ and folk co-conspirator AJ. The album is a selection of favourite songs and tunes from the acoustic, folk, roots world. The majority are culled from the pioneering London based record company Transatlantic but brought up to date with some vital tracks from later years. West Midlander Nat Joseph set up Transatlantic in the 1960s following a trip to the United States, at the time its nearest rival on the British scene was the folk label Topic Records. Marketed as “Transatlantic, the label where trends begin” the imprint always had an eclectic feel, a true independent, it also felt like the musicians had a freer hand, rare at a time when the major labels all had their own studios and in house producers would stamp their sound on bands in a Svengali style. One of the artists featured on the record, master guitarist John Renbourn put it this way, “ it became something of a catch-all for the mysterious ‘folk’ – mostly not the pure breeds who went with Topic or maybe Fontana, but looser unchartable types, ‘contemporary’ I suppose.”
'Where trends begin' is a phrase that has been used in conjunction with Pete's activities more than once before, so in many ways the two compilations - whilst worlds away from each other in many senses - can be seen as complimentary in demonstrating the breadth of music that Pete is passionate about.
Garden of Delights is out now on Sanctuary.
